BHA To Make Life Easier For Punters
Published on 22/11/17
Effective 19th January The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) is expected to introduce a new rule requiring trainers to disclose when their horses have undergone wind surgery.
The new BHA rule proposes that race cards will show when a horse is taking it’s first run following breathing related treatment.
Just last week Nicky Henderson postponed the reappearance of Altior due to the discovery of wind related issues.
Racecards will now show that the horse has undergone a procedure relating to this, though no requirement is specified for detailing of the particular procedure.
Henderson also pointed out that Sprinter Sacre had the same treatment at the close of his novice hurdle days, and Might Bite had a wind issue dealt with before taking on the fences.
Denman is another high profile horse to have received a wind operation.
The BHA is making this move in an effort to me more “open and transparent” particularly when a similar rule is already in use in other parts of the world.
