In the midst of a packed card of racing at Greyville on Saturday 29th August is the World Sports Betting Champions Cup. 11 runners have been entered for the showpiece event on the card and with over $25,000 worth of prize money up for grabs, it promises to be a fascinating contest over the 1 mile, 1-furlong trip.
Rank outsider Wynkelder doesn’t look to have too much in the tank to feature here and whilst Roy’s Riviera has a slightly better pedigree, both look as if they will struggle amongst this stellar field of runners.
Majestic Mozart has been drawn a tough hand from trap 1 and hasn’t finished any better than 5th this season whilst Crown Towers looks to have its work cut out for Richard Fourie having not shown any real form this campaign.
The next batch of shorter odds picks come in the form of Tristful and Ikigai. Both horses come from excellent stock and are relatively successful in their own right, but this race is a real step up in quality and it will be interesting to see if they can up their games.
Starting in trap 4, Sovereign Spirit should not be overlooked with Grant Van Niekerk on board and having won last time out, should be full of confidence.
Golden Ducat and Cirillo are two of the more unpredictable selections in the field, with both having won races recently but their relative inconsistencies make them difficult horses to bank on.
Eric Sands trained Golden Bridge looks to have all the hallmarks of a great horse over the mile or so trip and with three placed finishes from the last 4 starts, it is very difficult to rule out – especially with Warren Kennedy on board.
Meanwhile, favourite Do It Again is a prolific 6-year-old, having won 7 career races for Justin Snaith. Whilst recent results have been a little indifferent, Do It Again is a quality operator and should relish the trip here at Greyville. Back to back placed finishes are a sign that Do It Again is once again finding some form for Justin Snaith. Anton Marcus on board is one of the very best in the business and although the pace will be quick, Do It Again should get the job done.
