After the first two games of this series, the Tampa Bay Lightning looked like they were well on their way to the Stanley Cup Finals. In Game One, they DOMINATED the Islanders winning 8-2. In Game Two, the Islanders came back and fought hard only to lose the game in heartbreaking fashion 2-1 with the Lightning scoring in the final 9 seconds. Not many people expected the Islanders to take Game Three but that’s exactly what they did. They did it by forcing one of the top teams in the league to make errors and then they capitalized on those errors. Ryan McDonagh – Defenseman made an errant pass deep in their zone and Brock Nelson of the Islanders was able to sneak in and take it away. By the time the Lightning were able to regroup, the Islanders had already scored the game-winning goal.
Tampa Bay was missing three of their top players in Brayden Point (who was injured in Game 2), Alex Killorn (Suspended after Game 2) and Steven Stamkos (who is out all post season) and they still played well enough. With Point and Killorn expected to return for Game 4, the advantage will seemingly fall back into Tampa Bay’s favor. For this reason we look for Tampa Bay to regroup and turn the tables on the Islanders to take a 3-1 series lead.
