Sheffield United vs Leeds is this Sunday’s 12.00 Premier League game, and it features two teams with contrasting styles. Sheffield United have made a poor start to the season, losing both their Premier League games and exiting the Carabao Cup on penalties.
Leeds have already secured their first win of the season at home to Fulham 4-3, while they also gave Liverpool a fright on the opening day of the season in another 7-goal thriller.
The bookies are finding it hard to separate the two teams, with many going 17/10 (2.70) each of two and 9/4 (3.25) the draw. I’m inclined to agree with the bookies, so good luck if you’re trying to pick the winner of this one. But I do think that over 2.5 goals is a value bet at evens (2.00) or better, which is why it’s our Sheffield United vs Leeds tip.
Bramhall Lane was hailed as a something of a fortress last season during an excellent campaign for the Blades, but stalwart defending may not be enough to combat a Leeds side that presses high and whose main tactics appear to be to try and outscore their rivals.
But Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder strikes me as a manager that can change his team’s tactics when faced with an attacking side, and it’s interesting that Sheffield United produced some of their most noteworthy performances last season against teams that came to attack.
They took part in a 3-3 thriller against Manchester United, while also beating Tottenham 3-1, and Chelsea 3-0. We’ve already seen that Leeds tend to give their opposition plenty of chances and Sheffield United should enjoy being able to hit them on the counterattack.
I won’t even pretend I know how this fascinating match-up of styles is going to end but, by backing over 2.5 goals in the game, we can at least cheer whichever side scores them.
