RB Leipzig vs Atletico Madrid is Thursday’s Champions League quarterfinal first-leg. The bookies have made Atletico Madrid the favourites to win away from home and it’s easy to see why with Leipzig without two of the strikers that have been at the heart of their successes this season. Captain Yussuf Poulson remains on the sidelines after injuring an ankle, while Timo Werner has been sold to Chelsea.
Leipzig do have other attacking options, but whether they can fill the void left by Werner and Yussuf is a different matter against one of the meanest defences in Europe. Atletico looks sure to come and try and frustrate Leipzig, as they did Liverpool in the last-16, and that means that less than 2.5 goals is the bet.
Leipzig have scored freely at times this season, but they looked to be running out of steam at the end of the Bundesliga. Three of their last five games produced less than 2.5 goals with Poulson on the sidelines and they will struggle further without the talents of Werner at their disposal.
As the better side on paper, there also must be a good chance that Atletico will have a greater influence on the shape of this match. Juventus did score three against Atletico in their two group games, but Atletico conceded just two more goals in their other four games. Restricting Liverpool to just one goal in two matches was also a feat to be proud of.
Atletico also finished the season strongly with their last four games with two wins and two draws, all of which produced less two goals or less. That’s more reasons why our RL Leipzig vs Atletico Madrid tip is for there to be less than 2.5 goals.
