This Monday night features a showdown between two teams that have struggled mightily this season. The difference is that the New York Jets (0-8) were expected to struggle and the New England Patriots (2-5) were not. We are not exactly going out on a limb here in selecting the New England Patriots but let’s dig in a little.
The New England Patriots began the season well with a win against the Miami Dolphins. A team who would improve upon that performance. The Patriots then proceeded to lose to the Seattle Seahawks, before defeating the Vegas Raiders. Since that win, they’ve lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, the lowly Denver Broncos, the disappointing San Fransisco 49’ers and most recently they lost to the middle-of-the-road Buffalo Bills. The Patriots are riding a 4 game losing streak and are expecting to steamroll over a winless NY Jets team.
The New York Jets have been dreadful this season. Poor coaching, less than talented players and a young quarterback have been a recipe for disaster this season. They’ve lost every game they’ve played and have lost most games in embarrassing fashion. Most recently they were blown out by the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
While there is a romantic part of me who wants to side with the New York Jets at generous odds but logically, it doesn’t make sense. The Patriots, while not having the best of seasons, are coached by future hall of famer Bill Belicheck. The Jets are coached by Adam Gase whom everyone expects to be fired after every loss. The Jets are a longshot to get any wins this season but I cannot fathom Bill Belicheck losing a game to Adam Gase. Not in this lifetime.
