After the Miami Heat took an early 2-0 series lead, Celtics fans were left scratching their heads, wondering what happened to the team that swept the Philadelphia 76’ers in Round 1 in 4 games and then dethroned the defending champion Toronto Raptors in Round 2. Those questions were answered in Game 3 when the Celtics, responding to a fiery post-Game-2 locker room speech, thrashed the Miami Heat with a much more aggressive offensive approach 117-106. Game 3 saw the Celtics with 30 free throw attempts which was a postseason high, as was the 60 points they scored in the paint.
The Celtics actually played aggressively in Games 1 and 2 only to blow 14 point and 17 point leads in respective games. After their heated locker room meeting, basketball fans wondered whether they’d come back ready to win or if they’d be at each other’s throats on the court. The way they played on Saturday night answered that question emphatically. Celtics star Jaylen Brown led all scorers with 26 points followed closely by Jayson Tatum with 25 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists.
The way the Celtics bounced back on Saturday leads us to believe their rounds 1 and 2 were not anomalies and Games 1 and 2 of this series may have been. The Heat are a tough team but the Celtics have been dispatching of tough teams all postseason long. We look for the Celtics to sustain their rally and take Game 4.
