This Sunday, the bookies are offering pretty generous odds on the Las Vegas Raiders as underdogs against the Los Angeles Chargers. This is surprising considering their records with the Raiders at 4-3 and the Chargers currently with a 2-5 record but even more surprising once you dig into those records a little deeper.
The Chargers have lost to some pretty weak teams this season but they’ve also played some top teams very closely as evidenced by their narrow week 2 overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs and their narrow overtime loss to the New Orleans Saints. We’re going to look at a little more recent history though and see that they defeated a weak Jacksonville Jaguars team two weeks ago before losing a tight game against the lowly Denver Broncos 31-30 last week. They’re going to need to perform much better off that performance if they’re going to stand a chance against the Raiders.
The Las Vegas Raiders defeated the same Saints team the Chargers lost to. And they did it by 10 points. From there they lost a head-scratcher to the Tom Brady-less Patriots before being fed a steady diet of top NFL teams. They lost to the Buffalo Bills by a touchdown before taking down the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers then pounded them in Week 7 and they bounced back to take out their frustrations on the Cleveland Browns. I don’t see them becoming victims of the Los Angeles Chargers although stranger things have certainly happened. We like this matchup and we’re going with the underdog with a better record to come out on top.
