The “Battle of Ohio” is ON this Thursday night as the Cincinnati Bengals take on the Cleveland Browns. This is just week #2 of the NFL season. In week 1, the Browns got absolutely SMOKED by the Baltimore Ravens 38-6 while the Bengals fought a tough game only to lose 16-13 to the San Diego Chargers. So while these two Ohio teams are headed for a showdown, their first weeks look very different.
The weather in Ohio is expected to be fair for Thursday night and there are no major injuries on either team to speak of that should impact the outcome of the game. At least not as of the writing of this blog. While the majority of bettors will look at the scores of the week 1 games and side with the Bengals because they kept their game close against the Chargers while the Browns got blown out, there’s more going on here than meets the eye.
The Bengals played the Chargers closely but San Diego isn’t expected to be a top team in 2020 so there is some question about who they actually lost to. Rookie quarterback – Joe Burrow, played well for the Bengals considering it was his first pro game but the fact remains that he did only put up 13 points.
The Browns who lost by 32 points to the Baltimore Ravens were playing against one of the top 5 defenses in the NFL so the 6 points they put up, using a new offensive playbook, may not be as bad as it looks. The Browns were also running a brand new defensive playbook so maybe they needed a week to iron out the kinks. The Browns have a quarterback in Baker Mayfield, who came to the NFL very highly regarded and has yet to live up to the hype based on his college performance. We think the Baltimore Ravens are going to go very far this season and for that reason we think the Browns game last week was better than it may have looked.
