The 2020 Betfair Sprint Cup is the Group 1 highlight of this Saturday UK horse racing action (September 5). It takes place over 6-furlongs at Haydock Park, where the ground is forecast to ride soft for the 13 runners.
The three fillies in the race Archer’s Dream, Forever In Dreams, and Queen Jo Jo have plenty to find with the top-rated horses. The in-form Hollie Doyle will be hoping to be the first lady jockey to land this prestigious race but, while her partner Glen Shiel is in great form, he needs to improve massively on his Group 3 win last-time to take this.
It’s asking a lot of Brando to return to his best form at the age of 8, having looked regressive for a while now. The Tin Man is also 8, but he finished first in 2018 and second in 2019 under similar conditions. However, The Tin Man finished second to Tadeeb last time, who before that had finished second to Glen Shiel, suggesting neither should be good enough. Another who finished behind Tadeeb in that race was Summerghand and, though his rating has gone up since, he shouldn’t be winning.
Hello Youmzain and Dream Of Dream were separated by just a head when first and second in the Diamon Jubilee, and there shouldn’t be much between them. Hello Youmzain is trying to become only the second horse to win this race twice, while Dream Of Dreams looked to put in an improved performance under Oisin Murphy on his last run. Both may go close, but 3-year-olds have won five of the last six renewals.
Art Power’s run of four wins came to an end behind Battaash last time. He should relish this return to six-furlongs and handles the ground, but his overall form doesn’t look that strong. Lope Y Fernandez has run well on his last two starts behind Pinatubo and Space Blue but gives the impression that 7-furlongs could be his best trip, having looked outpaced over six in the Commonwealth Cup.
The winner of that race Golden Horde is our Betfair Sprint Stakes tip. He disappointed slightly when third in the July Cup and didn’t stay over further in France last time. But four of the last five winners have been high-class 3-year-olds drawn between stalls four and eight, so he has the right credentials with a draw in stall-6.
