When MLB playoff brackets are created, there’s no telling whether or not the top teams in each division will survive or not. So much can happen in a given season and with the madness that this MLB season has had to overcome with an abbreviated schedule, it’s actually a little bit of a surprise that the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers are still standing as the top two in the National League.
The Dodgers have banked on the brilliant pitching from Clayton Kershaw and Walker Buehler. Buehler missed two September starts with a finger blister and even though it’s not fully healed, he’s still been pitching adequately enough but his starts have been more abbreviated. The Dodgers have enough of a bench to make up for it if he’s unable to be at his best.
The Braves have been relying on pitching from Max Fried, Ian Anderson and Kyle Wright in the first few rounds of the playoffs but with more games in this round, they’ll need to rely on their 22 year old rookie – Huascar Ynoa to step up.
All in all the Dodgers are playing like a team of destiny. With the top average exit velocity for their pitchers and the top rank for hardest hit ball percentage, we look for the Dodgers to apply their craft and take down Atlanta in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series.
