Best Free Horse Racing Tips : July Cup Preview

Published on 11/07/15

The July Cup is arguably the most prestigious Group-1 6-furlong sprint in Britain. In the last 10 years it has been won by five 4-year-olds, two 3-year-olds, two 5-year-olds and one 6-year-old.

Of the trainers with runners today only Aidan O’Brien and Eddie Lynam have won it before, whilst the only jockeys riding in this year’s race to have won it before are Paul Hanagan and Hayley Turner.

Here’s our analysis of all the runners and our big-race tip.

Brazen Beau 5/2

Aussie sprinter who was strongly fancied to win at Royal Ascot but could only manage to be second, though drawn on the opposite side to the winner. If he’s improved for that run he could be very hard to beat, though it will be interesting to see if he handles the Newmarket dip.

Muhaarar 11/4

Was super impressive in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, despite not being obviously fancied in the market that day. Could win here and be crowned Champion Sprinter, though only finished 3rd on two course and distance starts.

Muthmir 12/1

Connections had high hopes for him, but seemed to give the impression they thought he ‘d be better at 5-furlongs. Also faded on his only run over course and distance.

Anthem Alexander 14/1

Likeable filly who gets weight from all her rivals. Second to Tiggy Wiggy last year on only course start and she’d be interesting if her stable was in better form.

Sole Power 16/1

Twice champion 5-furlong sprinter, but 0 from 10 at 6-furlongs.

G-Force 16/1

Won group 1 sprint last year, and his trainer David O’Meara took the group 1 Falmouth Stakes yesterday. Talented if inconsistent, but might want slightly slower ground to produce his best.

Tropics 16/1

Last year’s runner-up can run some serious races, most of which have come over course and distance. Would prefer softer ground.

Danzeno 20/1

Won only course and distance start and has potential to be rated higher. Stable out of form this week.

Astaire 25/1

Third at Royal Ascot behind Brazen Beau, and interesting that his best form prior to that was all here. Probably not good enough if one of the two favourites is a superstar, but is probably the each-way value.

Others

Jack Dexter, Eastern Impact, Caspar Netcher, Lancelot Du Lac and Steps all look up against it even on their best form.

Tip

This will probably go to one of the big two but, as you’d probably end up in the nut house backing short-priced favourites in sprint races, course specialist Astaire looks a sporting each-way bet against them.

I think Steps is better than the figures shown and will be more suited at 6F coming with a late run. Worth an EW at big odds

Bit concerned about the 16 point outlay today, mate. Kaboom. 45 points back. Glad I kept stakes the same. Thanks very much

You’re welcome John. Yeah, sometimes when you fancy a few on the same day, the outlay can look a bit daunting. Glad you kept the faith – and hope you backed Sunday’s tip, too.
