Five Asian Teams have qualified for the 2018 World Cup Finals and, though Japan, Australia, Iran, South Korea, and Saudia Arabia are unlikely to win the tournament – if you fancy one of the Asian Qualifiers to outplay their counterparts then you could still profit by picking the winner of the Best Asian Team Market.
Best Asian Team Betting 2018 World Cup
Japan 7/4, Australia 10/3, Iran 10/3, South Korea 10/3, Saudia Arabia 9/1
Japan head the Best Asian Team Market, despite being only the third highest-ranked team of the 5 runners. However, this will be their sixth World Cup Finals in a row, and they made it to the Last-16 in both 2002 and 2010. They’ve also won 4 and drawn 2 of their 12 World Cup Games in the last 5 World Cups, whilst Shinji Okazaki (Leicester) and Shinji Kagawa (Borussia Dortmund) offer them valuable European experience. After finishing ahead of Australia and Saudia Arabia in qualifying, they have a chance of making the knockout stages from a Group that contains Colombia, Senegal and Poland.
This will be Australia’s fourth consecutive appearance in the finals but, after making it to the knockout stages in 2006, they haven’t made it out of the groups in 2010 and 2014. Finished behind Japan and Saudia Arabia in qualifying, before winning a play-off against Syria. They have an established team, and an attacking style of play that saw them win an Asian Cup in 2015, however they will be appointing a new coach before the finals. Also need to play France in the Groups, but Denmark and Peru are beatable.
Officially the highest-rated of the Asian Teams at number 32 in the FIFA World Rankings, and have now qualified for 4 of the last 5 World Cup Finals. However, they have recorded just one win and two draws in their 9 previous games, exiting at the Group Stage each time. Look to have a nightmare draw too, with Spain, Portugal and Morocco in their group.
Reached the semi-finals in 2002, but only made it to the last-16 in one of their three subsequent appearances. They also struggled in qualifying, and look to be in another difficult group comprised of Germany, Sweden and Mexico.
Saudia Arabia look to have been luckiest with the draw, as they’re in a group including Russia, Egypt and Uruguay. However, they’re already on their third coach since qualifying, and probably need hitman Mohammed Al-Sahlawi to have an absolute blinder.
Iran and South Korea will do well to qualify from difficult groups, whilst Australia may find life difficult under a new coach, and only finished third behind Japan and Saudia Arabia in qualifying. This could easily be a 5-way dead-heat with all five teams exiting at the same stage, so there’s an argument for backing the outsider Saudia Arabia to make a small profit if that happens. However, as Saudia Arabia are also in the weakest group, there is a possibility they’ll actually win the bet outright.
