Horse racing action from Australia this week comes in the shape of high profile meetings at Caulfield, Randwick and Morphetville, with Melbourne racegoers looking forward to catching a glimpse of newly crowned champion racehorse Winx, when she will look to overcome her rivals once again in the Ladbrokes Stakes. Along with the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas, Thousand Guineas and Toorak Handicap, there is plenty of opportunity to win big on the first day of the Caulfield Carnival. Meanwhile, Randwick plays host to the final Group 1 meeting of the Sydney Spring, where the Spring Champion Stakes is undoubtedly the standout race. Finally, in Adelaide the Hill Smith Stakes takes centre stage at Morphetville, in which is an encounter notoriously difficult to predict.
LADBROKES HERBERT POWER STAKES – 2400M – 12.55PM
Robert Hickmott Irish Horse Assign performed well in what was just his second run back after a spell in applying pressure to star stable mate Almandin last time around, and with the five-year-old looking in better shape than ever, it is unsurprising that he currently leads the way in the betting for the second race of the day at Caulfield. 2015 Melbourne Cup Winner Prince Of Penzance is carrying the big weight for the race, however will need to be at his very best to outlast Assign at the weekend. As for an outside bet, Dandy Gent has been heavily backed in the last few days, and having only just missed out in his last race after taking off early, may well make the step up this time around.
Betting Tips for Ladbrokes Herbert Power Stakes:
Outright – Assign
Each Way – Prince Of Penzance
LADBROKES STAKES – 1600M – 03.50PM
Super star mare Winx will be searching for a twelfth straight win in the Group 1 race at Caulfield on Saturday, and despite only having raced once in Melbourne, looks set to be as difficult to beat as ever, with just Black Heart Bart and He Or She left in contention. Despite Darren Weirs six-year-old being on a winning streak of his own, and with He Or She placing at his last two Group 1 meetings, it would come as a huge surprise if Winx did not claim yet another famous victory for trainer Chris Waller.
Betting Tips for Ladbrokes Stakes:
Outright – Winx
Runner up (only three horses running) – Black Heart Bart
SCHWEPPS THOUSAND GUINEAS – 1600M – 03.50PM
With the disappointing turn out in the Ladbrokes Stakes, the Thousand Guineas is likely to be the race of the day at Caulfield, with Chris Waller’s Foxplay currently leading the betting odds at present. If she is on top of her form she will undoubtedly be hard to beat, however the recent performances of Missrock have got those within the horse racing community extremely excited, with some even predicting an outside chance for victory here. A large field for this race should certainly suit Missrock, although competition will come from the likes of Global Glamour and Harlow Gold.
Betting Tips for Thousand Guineas:
Each Way – Missrock
TAB ANGST STAKES – 1600M – 04.50PM
Chris Waller is again the name on everyone’s lips heading into one of the day’s most competitive races at Randwick, with Lady Le Fay heading the betting among bookmakers, having only missed out on placing once when she finished behind quality runners in the shape of Azkadellia, Heavens Above and Noble Protector in the Group I Queen of the Turf Stakes. She then went on to claim the fastest final furlong time in preparation for this weekend’s race, and with Tommy Berry in the saddle, it could well be another victory for the six-year-old mare. Dixie Blossoms and Extensible are likely to provide the sternest test of her abilities, with the duo only given slightly longer odds.
Betting Tips for Tab Angst Stakes:
Outright – Lady Le Fay
Each Way – Extensible
HILL SMITH STAKES – 1800M – 04.48PM
Despite only recording a narrow victory in the Morph Guineas last time around, Silvera was mightily impressive anyway, and will be among the leading contenders in Adelaide despite the large field. Elsewhere, with former Guineas runner up Smart As You Think missing out, it looks set to be left to the likes of Pretty Punk and Fully Stoked to provide competition to Silvera, with the latter impressing in his second start last time around.
Betting Tips for Hill Smith Stakes:
Each Way – Fully Stoked
