23 Sep Australian Horse Racing Preview & Tips
The Spring Carnival in Melbourne continues this weekend, and with events hotting up, it is action from Caulfield that looks set to dominate proceedings, with a Group 1 double header for racing fans to look forward to. The Sir Rupert Clarke and Underwood stakes will take centre stage, with fascinating preludes to the Caulfield Guineas and Thousand offering plenty to get excited about. Meetings at Moonee Valley and Morphettville across the weekend also provide punters with the opportunity to win big on high quality horse racing action.
The Alfred Hospital Plate – 1100m – 12.30
The supremely talented Super Cash is undoubtedly the favourite for the opening race of the day at Caulfield, and having already recorded victories at Flemington this autumn before competing in some high class races, should go well again this weekend. The Andrew Noblet mare is certainly set for a big spring campaign, and could well kick things off on Saturday. Competition for Super Cash is most likely to come in the form of Magic Alibi, with the Gerard Ryan trained horse having just missed out in the Sheraco at Rosehill recently. Given a bit of luck, and given the form shown around Azkadellia in the past, an each-way bet on Magic Alibi could well prove fruitful. For those looking for an outside bet for the opening race of the day, Mossin’ Around could well be the horse for you. Despite fading significantly last time around, she should improve at Caulfield, and could cause an upset if others falter.
Betting tips for Alfred Hospital Plate:
Outright – Super Cash
Each-Way – Magic Alibi
Hyland Race Colours Underwood Stakes – 1800m – 16.55
As one of Australia’s highest ranked horse races, it is little surprise that $500,000 Group One Hyland Race Colours Underwood Stakes has once again attracted an all-star line-up. Lucia Valentina’s I Can’t Believe looks like the best bet for this one given the conditions, and having challenged the likes of Hartnell and Winx last time around, should win this one at a canter if she is anywhere near her best. With Valentina favouring keeping her fresh for such occasions, and despite failing to inspire in trials earlier this week, her quality should be enough. Tarzino disappointed in the recent Makybe Diva Stakes, however has proved in the past that he is much better than that showing, and could well run I Can’t Believe close. Punters looking for an outside bet should certainly take a look at Tavago, who after suffering from bad luck last time around, looks to be in good shape leading up to the Caulfield Cup.
Betting tips for Hyland Race Colours Underwood Stakes:
Outright – I Can’t Believe
Each-Way – Tarzino
Schweppes Handicap – 1550 metres – 13.18
Following two wins from four career starts to date, Urban Ruler heads the betting for the Schweppes Handicap at Morphettville Park on Saturday, with the three-year-old harbouring strong hopes of victory. Having achieved a first win at Sandown on soft ground this season, Urban Ruler then produced another fine run at Flemington, despite his eventual eighth place finish. However, strong competition will undoubtedly come from Morvada, who having done little wrong in his first six races, which includes a win in the Listed Oaklands, is well backed for Saturday’s race. Finally, Casta will have to improve significantly on his last outing at Morphettville, although has shown enough in the past to be worth an outside bet.
Betting tips for Schweppes Handicap:
Outright – Morvada
Each-Way – Casta
Ronald McDonald House Westmead Golden Pendant – 1400 metres – 15.55
John Thompson’s First Seal heads the betting for this $400,000 Group 2 race, however it is perhaps Tycoon Tara who is causing the most excitement at Rosehill this Saturday. The six-year-old Randwick based mare has unbelievable pace given the right conditions, and once ahead, is extremely difficult to overtake. Having finished a respectable fourth behind the likes of Mackintosh, Counterattack and Southern Legend in the Theo Marks recently, and given her price is definitely worth backing. Another win for trainers Peter and Paul Snowden would certainly not be a surprise.
Betting tips for Ronald McDonald House Westmead Golden Pendant:
Outright – First Seal
Each-Way – Tycoon Tara
With these tips being just a few of the potential winners from this weekend’s action, be sure to keep an eye on the likes of Moral Victory and Prized Icon, both of whom run at Rosehill, as well as Royal Rapture and Craven Image who run at Caulfield.
