Aintree & Sandown Free Racing Tips
Published on 07/12/18
There’s some great horse racing on Saturday including racing from Sandown and Aintree and we’ve got six free tips for you including a free tip for the Tingle Creek Chase. We’ve also got free tips for the Becher Chase, the Henry VIII Novices’ Chase, the Many Clouds Chase, the Grand Sefton Handicap Chase, and the Betfair London National Handicap Chase.
The last two winners of the Becher Chase Blakion and Vieux Lion Rouge both have something to prove after finishing last season out of form, though either could easily win if back to form, especially the classy Blakion. However, the 2015 winner Highland Lodge has also finished second and third in the last two years and now finds himself 6lb better off with Vieux Lion Rouge and 8lb better off with Blaklion. Usually best when fresh, this also looks sure to be Highland Lodge’s big target for the season and he looks the best each-way value in the race with three of the last eight winners being aged 12 or older.

Lalor won a decent bumper and a good novices’ hurdle at the last two Grand National Meetings, but he really impressed when winning at Cheltenham on his novice chase debut. He beat some well-fancied rivals easily there and looks sure to be a force to be reckoned with in all the top two-mile novice chases this season. He actually comes into the race rated 1lb lower than Diakali but clocked a significantly faster time at Cheltenham than Diakali did when winning last time out. Diakali also looked a lucky winner there, as Dear Sire fell at the last when going well and One For Billy ran out on the run-in. Richard Johnson is also three from three on Lalor and can hopefully keep the 100% record intact.

Just four runners are set to go to post for this year’s renewal of the Many Clouds Chase and it’s hard to make a case for ACDC, whilst 2017 Grand National winner One For Arthur will probably need the run. That means it should be a showdown between last year’s winner Definitely Red and Double Shuffle. Definitely Red has to concede 6lb to Double Shuffle but, though he would only have to concede his rival 2lb if this was a handicap, he’s still fancied to come out on top. That’s because he should be much more suited by the heavy ground, whilst Double Shuffle has also flopped on both previous visits to Aintree, be it those were better races.
Many Clouds Chase Free Tip:

Un De Sceaux, Saint Calvados, and Sceau Royal have all been favourites for many races they’ve run in, but they face the mighty Altior in the Grade 1 Tingle Creek Chase. If this was a handicap, Altior would have to give Un De Sceaux 7lb, Sceau Royal 16lb, and Saint Calvados 17lb, yet all four horses are set to carry level-weights. It could be an interesting race tactically though, as Saint Calvados and Un De Sceaux are both capable of blazing a trail, which should suit Sceau Royal who loves to sit off the pace and arrive as late on the scene as possible.
By contrast, Altior usually comes off the bridle at some point and I imagine we may get a much bigger price in running about Nicky Henderson’s reigning Champion Chaser. I’ll certainly have the Betfair in-running trigger poised to take those prices as I expect Altior to bound up the Sandown Hill and maintain his 100% record over jumps. However, I can only tip him up at the pre-race odds on offer.
Tingle Creek Chase Free Tip:
Altior @ 1.75 Marathon, Matchbook
Shanahan’s Turn was good enough to win a Galway Plate off a mark of 142 and, though he’s far from consistent, he looks to have a lot going for him off a mark of 135 here. He’s just 1lb higher than when a fine second in last year’s Topham Chase to stablemate Ultragold, when he jumped the fences for fun. The handicapper has also kindly dropped him 2lb for finishing last at Cheltenham last time over a trip that was far too sharp for him, and he’s much better judged on the form of his previous start at Chepstow where was third behind Charbel and Baron Alco, two horses that have boosted that form in fine style since.
Grand Sefton Handicap Chase Free Tip:
Shanahan’s Turn (Each-Way) @ 6.50 SkyBet, BetVictor (both 4 places)
Royal Vacation had a poor season last season but this former Grade 1 Chase winner ran an excellent race on his seasonal debut when splitting the useful Rock The Kasbah and Coneygree at Cheltenham, with more useful types like Singlefarmpayment, Calett Mad, and Cogry further behind. Therefore, this look like a drop-in-class for Colin Tizzard’s 8-year-old, who looks well-handicapped even on that run let alone his form from a couple of years ago. Don’t go mad, as he’s flopped twice over the Sandown fences, but he’s worth chancing as those runs came after he had run poorly on his previous start.
