A Guide To Over Under Goals Betting

Published on October 5, 2017 by Josh Lakin

It has become common knowledge that football has a vast amount of opportunities for punters to make money, with a wide variety of markets to place a bet on. One of the ways is through the under/over goals bet. In this article we will outline what exactly this bet is.

What Is The Over Under Goals Bet?

This simple bet is when you put a stake on how many goals there will be scored during a football match, either under or over a certain number. The numbers aren’t whole, instead they start at 0.5 and go up by 1 value, for example 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 and so on. If you decide to wager a bet on under 2.5 goals, then you want only two goals scored in the game, for over 2.5 you want the game to finish with at least three goals scored, for example Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Leicester City.  You will not win if the goal count doesn’t go above the value what you predicted. The ‘over’ goals bet are popular with punters as they can remain active until the game finishes, or until the outcome is achieved. The ‘under’ goals can remain active all game long too, but can be settled if more goals are scored than what you’ve bet on, making you lose.

As mentioned previously, the goals can be scored by any of the two sides. In addition to this, if you put a bet on ‘over’ 2.5 goals, and the game ends as 4-0, then you’ll still win the bet.

Does This Bet Appear In Other Sports?

Yes, this bet is widely seen in several other sports, including cricket, tennis and both codes of Rugby (League and Union). It is more common for punters to place this bet on football games though, especially on accumulators, but you can still come across odds that are of excellent value  when betting on other sports as well.
