The Santa Anita Park is a racetrack located in California, United States. The racetrack is considered one of the most beautiful racetracks in the country because of the breathtaking backdrop of the San Gabriel Mountains. The racing events in the Santa Anita Park Racecourse takes place in winter and spring, and the course has hosted a number of races and tournaments including:

Santa Anita Derby
Santa Anita Handicap
Breeders’ Cup in 1986, 1993, 2003, 2008, 2009, and from 2012 to 2014, plus 2016


The park was initially owned by Claudio Lopez, who named it after a family member ‘Anita Cota’. Due to its excellent infrastructure, the racecourse had attracted a number of different stars like:

Since the racecourse is located in close proximity to Los Angeles, it has been featured in a number of movies, such as Marx Brothers, A Day at the Races, and The Story of Seabiscuit.

Learning About The Racecourse

The main track of the racecourse is made up of dirt and stretches to one mile. It includes a turf course that measures up to 0.9 mile. Other than this, the racecourse has a hillside turf course, which measures up to 1,408.5 yards and is used to run turf races. In order to comply with the mandate issued by the State of California, the racecourse’s management replaced the dirt racing surface with a cushion track, which was made with the help of elastic fibre, granulated rubber, silica sand, synthetic fibres, and wax coating.

The racecourse occupies around 320 acres, boasts of a 1,100-foot (340 m) long grandstand, and can accommodate up to 26,000 guests. It also has an infield area that can accommodate up to 50,000 guests as well as 2,000 horses, 61 barns, and an equine hospital.
