At the 2014 World Cup in Rio, Colombia shrugged-off their controversial reputation to delight crowds with a wonderful mix of flair and attacking football, which resulted in James Rodriguez winning the Golden Boot with 6 goals, despite Colombia only making it to the quarter-finals.

Colombia scored 9 goals as they won all three group games against Greece, Japan and the Ivory Coast. They then beat Uruguay 2-0 in the Last-16, and scored their twelfth and final goal in their 2-1 quarter-final defeat by Brazil.

Six different players scored for Colombia, with 2 goals for Martinez, and 1 goal each for Armero, Gutierrez, Quintero, and Cuadrado, in addition to Rodriguez’ Golden Boot winning haul.

The big question is, can Rodriguez lead Colombia to more success with his goals, or is there better value elsewhere in the 2018 World Cup Colombia Top Goalscorer Market?

2018 World Cup Colombia Top Goalscorer Betting

Carlos Bacca 11/4, James Rodriguez 7/2, Radamel Falcao 5/1, Teofilo Gutierrez 5/1, Edwin Cardona 8/1

Carlos Bacca
Bacca made his debut for Colombia in 2010, and has since scored 14 goals in 43 appearances for his country. Since moving to Europe in 2012, he has also scored 28 goals for 48 games for Club Brugge, 34 goals in 72 games for Sevilla, and 31 goals in 69 games for Milan. He is now on loan at Villareal. Scored 1 goal in 5 games for Colombia in 2017.

James Rodriguez
Despite his World Cup Golden Boot at the 2014 World Cup, Rodriguez has never been the most prolific of scorers. He scored 25 goals in 63 games for Porto, and 11 in 34 games for Monaco prior to Rio 2014, He then made a dream move to Real Madrid, but after just 28 goals in 77 games, he is now on loan at Bayern Munich. Scored 4 goals in 7 games for Colombia in 2017 though, and it may be that he will again thrive on the biggest football stage of all.

Radamel Falcao
Has usually scored goals wherever he’s played, including 41 goals in 51 games for Porto, and 52 goals in 68 games for Atletico Madrid. Didn’t make much of an impression in the English Premier League for Manchester United or Chelsea, but has since scored 37 goals in 46 games since returning to Monaco. He is also Colombia’s all-time leading scorer with 28 goals in 78 games, despite missing the 2014 World Cup through injury. Recently recalled to the Colombian Squad, and scored 3 goals in 6 games for Colombia in 2017.

Teofilio Gutierrez
Ageing forward who has spent his career playing in South America, and has scored 15 goals in 51 games for Colombia. Scored in the 2014 World Cup Finals, but may not be a first-choice striker at the 2018 World Cup Finals.

Edwin Carona
Banned for 5 International Matches after a racist gesture against South Korea in 2017 and, though he will be eligible for the World Cup Finals, 5 goals for his country in 25 games don’t make him an obvious selection.

Summary

Carlos Bacca looks a weak favourite after scoring just 1 goal for Colombia in 2017, but Radamel Falcao is certainly of interest now he’s back amongst the goals for Monaco. However, despite not playing regularly for his club, it could be that the World Cup sparks James Rodriguez back into the sort of form that won him the Golden Boot in 2014.
