Form and Predictions
The Flight Stakes represents the best of the three-year-old fillies at this early stage of the season. Raced over a mile, it determines what path some of these horses will take further on into their campaigns. Some will slot back into sprint distances (1000m to 1400m) while others will move up to middle distance races, even up to an Oaks trip, which is 2400m and 2500m).
The top rated filly here is MISS FABULASS, whose dam Samantha Miss was a very decent race mare in her time, and won this race back in 2008, the same year she placed third in the W.S Cox Plate and winning the VRC Oaks (2500m). Her sire is the British champion Frankel. Nothing more needs to be said there. With impeccable breeding, Miss Fabulass is the one to beat.
Serious challenges should come from the Chris Waller filly FIESTA, who is building a nice resume herself. Her form-line reads very well, and with Hugh Bowman riding, maybe he can bring a bit of Winx like magic to the occasion?
Melbourne filly OOHOOD is probably the unluckiest filly here. After placing in two Group 1 races in the autumn, she still remains a maiden. I’d love for her to win, and if so, she’d bring the house down. A good place chance.
Queensland filly BACCARAT BABY brings supreme form into the race (five wins on the trot), but she has been lining up in lesser company, so looks and first appearances may be misleading. However, I’m certain many punters will be interested to see how she goes in a Group 1 event.
The Sebring filly PRETTY IN PINK is only lightly raced, but looks like a serious filly on the rise. Only the four starts, two Group 2 placings, and two wins including her debut maiden. Did not race as a two-year-old. She is one to add to your black book for sure. Currently second favourite.
Maybe as an outside prospect is Sydney filly MAID IN HEAVEN. This girl looks as if she can rattle home like a rocket based on her runs to date. If given a decent run by James McDonald, she might be finding the line better than most. An $11.00 chance in the early betting.
Of the others, I can’t really see the remainder threatening any of the horses mentioned already.
