2017/2018 Premier League Kick-Off

Posted August 11, 2017 | By Tim @ Betting Gods

The 2017/18 Premier League Season gets underway on Friday night with Arsenal taking on Leicester City, and we’ve tips for that match, as well as Watford vs Liverpool, Chelsea vs Burnley, and Manchester United vs West Ham.

Arsenal vs Leicester (Friday 7.45)

Both teams started slowly last season, and left their fans disappointed with respective finishes of fifth and twelfth. It was an especially big fall from grace for 2015/16 Champions Leicester who, despite rallying in the second-half of the season, could only muster 45 points and a –15 goal-difference. Meanwhile, Arsenal missed out on Champions League Football by one point having finished the season with 75 points and a +33 goal-difference. That gulf in class certainly suggests Arsenal should be up to winning this opening game of the 2017/18 Premier League Season, which would extend their already impressive run of 10 straight home wins over Leicester to 11.

Watford vs Liverpool (Saturday 12.30)

All eyes will be on Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp’s team predicted by many to improve on last year’s fourth place, which saw them finish the season with 76 points and a +36 goal-difference, as well as a place in this season’s Champions League. Victory in their opening fixture would certainly be no surprise having completed the double over Watford last season, 1-0 away, and 6-1 at home. However, big things are expected of new Watford Manager Marco Silva, who has enjoyed terrific success in both Portugal and Greece, and Watford look value to get at least a point from their opening game having only lost 7 of their 19 home games last season.

Chelsea vs Burnley (Saturday 3.00)

Having priced Chelsea up at a best-priced 1/4, the bookies look to have taken a view that last year’s Champions won’t be as good as they were last season, whilst statistics also suggest that price is on the short side with Burnley having drawn two of their last 4 games at Stamford Bridge. However, Burnley’s away-form last season left plenty to be desired, with just 1 win and 4 draws on their travels. Meanwhile, Chelsea won 17 of their 19 home games – making it difficult to look beyond a Chelsea win. However, it could be worth trying to land bigger odds by backing Chelsea to win 3-0, as that has been the score-line of Chelsea’s victories in 2 of the last 3 renewals.

Manchester United vs West Ham (Sun 4.00)

Big things are expected of Manchester United this season, as Jose Mourinho’s record in his second season in charge of his previous clubs is nothing short of staggering. Mourinho also steered Manchester United to win both home and away against West Ham last season, and it will be no surprise if they land odds-on quotes to win their opening match. However, West Ham have strengthened their starting 11 with the arrivals of Joe Hart, Pablo Zabaleta, Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez, and it’s worth remembering they drew their 3 previous games at Old Trafford. Therefore, much more interesting is that fact that new Manchester United hitman Romelu Lukaku has scored in 7 of his last 8 games against West Ham (be it in an Everton shirt) and it could be worth backing him to score at any time.

I only count 4 bets ( 5 was in the intro blurb) – good calls and reasoning on Arsenal,Chelsea and Man U – I feel Liverpool will be stronger than expected. I see this as a tight away win.
Remember that in the last three opening day fixtures (33 matches) there were only 5
    Home wins.
