2017 US Open Tennis Preview And Tip
The 2017 US Open will once again take place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Flushing Meadows, New York. However, the tournament has already been decimated by the absence of the last two champions Stan Wawrinka and Novak Djokovic, whilst the withdrawal of Andy Murray, Kei Nishikori and Milos Raonic mean 5 of the world’s top-11 players are missing.
That leaves Roger Federer as the 15/8 favourite, though he hasn’t won the tournament since completing a 5-timer in 2008. Meanwhile, number-one seed Rafa Nadal hasn’t lifted the trophy since 2013, with the only other previous winners in attendance being 2009 champion Juan Martin del Potro and 2014 champion Marin Cilic.
2017 US Open Betting
Federer 15/8, Nadal 7/2, A.Zverev 11/2, Cilic 18/1, Dimitrov 18/1, Kyrgios 22/1, Thiem 33/1, del Potro 40/1, Tsonga 50/1 Isner 66/1
Rafa Nadal has little to beat in the opening quarter on head-to-head stats and, if the draw goes to plan, he holds A 15-1 lead over Richard Gasquet, a 19-4 lead over Tomas Berdych, and a 13-2 lead over Gael Monfils. I expected him to be about 1/2 to win his quarter – and the 5/4 is on the generous side.
Nadal 4 Points To Win The First Quarter @ 5/4 Ladbrokes/Coral
Federer is odds-on to win the second quarter, but a reputed back injury tempers enthusiasm for a player that has already achieved his major goal of the season by winning Wimbledon. He could easily raise his game for the big occasion, but the value could be Nick Kyrgios as the Australian already boasts a victory over Federer, and took him to three tie-breaks earlier this season.
Kyrgios 1 Point To Win Second Quarter @ 13/2 Paddy Power
Alexander Zverev has had a brilliant season, but has yet to get past the second round of the US Open in two attempts and, even in a year in which his improvement has been exponential, he’s yet to get further than the fourth round of a slam. Gilles Muller could be an early stumbling block for him and, if that proves the case, it could be John Isner who delights the American crowds.
John Isner 1 Point To Win The Third Quarter @ 8/1 Bet Victor
A tricky looking fourth quarter with fitness doubts about Marin Cilic, who has been absent since losing the Wimbledon Final. However, if the 2014 winner turns up fully fit, he could have the final quarter at his mercy – but it’s a no-bet quarter for me.
Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal will probably never have a better chance of winning another US Open but, with them being in the same half of the draw, there doesn’t look to be much value in the prices. Therefore, I’m happy to take a flyer and back the inform John Isner each-way at 66/1, and Nick Kyrgios at 22/1.
