The Boyne Hurdle (Navan, Sunday 3.10) is a Grade-2 Hurdle that was first run in 1987. It’s most famous winner is Limestone Lad, who is also the only dual winner of the race.
Meanwhile, Mouse Morris is the race’s leading trainer having trained four winners, whilst Barry Geraghty is the only jockey to have ridden 3 winners.
9-runners are set to go to post for the 2017 Boyne Hurdle.
It was hard not to be impressed by the way he shot clear over 2-miles at Naas last time, when conceding weight to most of his rivals, including the re-opposing Supasundae and Ttebbob. He’s well-in with all of his rivals compared to a handicap and, if he stays the extra distance, he should prove hard to beat. Barry Geraghty rides.
Won 3 times as a novice hurdler, but has struggles do far this season. 15lb wrong with Sutton Place, and hard to make a case for.
De Plotting Shed
Course winner who has only 6lb to find with Sutton Place, and is one of the more likely ones to take advantage if the favourite doesn’t stay. Not top-class though, as he proved by finishing behid decent rivals on last two runs.
The 2015 winner was only 3rd of 3 in 2016, and generally regressive at the age of 11.
Runs for Mouse Morris, but would have to come back to the form of his second in the Albert Bartlett in 2015. Even that might not be good enough, and his runs this year have been deplorable.
Kept to 2-miles over hurdles so far, but the way he stayed-on in the 2015 Cesarewitch suggests he’s well worth a go at this sort of trip over. Also ran very well when second to Jezki last time, and has the potential to trouble Sutton Place.
Outpaced over 2-miles by Sutton Place last time, but suggested he’s relish the step-up to this trip when winning well over 20-furlongs previously. Another with the potential to trouble the favourite.
Yet to really cut-it at graded level, and may be one to keep an eye on for handicaps now his mark has gone down to 145 from 154, as he was third in the Pertemps Final in 2015 off 145.
Ran well as a novice chaser here, but his form this year has been appalling do far, including when well-beaten by Sutton Place last time.
2017 Boyne Hurdle Summary
Sutton Place was being talked about as a possible Champion Hurdle contender after his win last time, so it’s a bit strange that he’s stepping up so far in trip. Should win if he stays, but Rennetti is also interesting stepping-up in trip for the first time – and looks better value.
